Thumbnail Commentary
Back to 1958 in Kindergarten. I actually don't have any of my baby pictures. I'll have to have my sister send some to me.
When Lynn was at the "top" of the (school patrol) class and I was still saying "cheese".
So when others bet they owned their first computer the longest ago, I usually win with my 1965 Digi-Comp 1 mechanical computer. with (6) 3-input gates and 3 bits of memory. Why there's even an online emulator now.
While I don't have my high school year book, I still have my high school grad picture
During my time at Purdue, I was in the coop program. Here a fellow worker and I took a break from doing inspections and escaped the construction site through an effluent pipe to the Ohio River.
Tim, Lynn and I went hiking in the Cascades in '74. This picture relates to this campfire story I have told a number of times. Tim, thanks for the memories!
After college, I needed a new look. Sporting a full beard, I dazzled Navy brass with computer graphics wizardry. Lots of stories here, but my favorite was reviewing a VSTOL aircraft proposal from Sikorsky. They proposed a helicopter style craft with an ejection seat synchronized to eject through the helicopter blades. My boss jokingly said, what a grand idea. Think we could ever find a test pilot to try that one out? Ah, what garbage companies will throw out to get some easy government money.
After 3 years of government work and returning to Purdue for grad school, I dressed up for my move to Texas.
and about a year after moving to Texas married Deb, whom I dated in Indianapolis.
During a visit to Ruidoso, NM, in 1982, the shuttle landed at White Sands so we drove the short distance to see it. Half of New Mexico was there. They had to hire two, not one, security guards to control the crowd. The only other spectacular aircraft I have seen was when I was alone in a bus at Heathrow and the driver wanted to stop right behind the Concorde as it took off. Never thought how cool a picture that would have been, so I never pulled my camera out. But the sound was half of that experience. Always wanted to witness a shuttle launch but never have.
It's always hard to beat those good old fashioned photos. Deb, Dave, friends Lance C., Sharla P.
In 1982 moved to Fort Collins, CO. This is a 360 degree pan from nearby Horsetooth Mountain. I don't know the couple in the picture. I thought it might be rude to ask them to step out of the way.
Next thing you know, in 1989 our only child, Katelyn was born. And here's a video morph of her next 13 years.
In '99 my 9 yr old daughter in front of the house in Highland where I lived when I was 9. That little boxed out entry room was where my mother taught piano.
In 2002 we enjoyed a Blue Angels exhibition at our home town airport.
In 2003, I took my daughter on a trip to California. One highlight was a helicopter ride (video) where we flew under Golden Gate Bridge. And no, the sound doesn't get louder as you pass underneath. That was artistic license.
In my full "Life History" pages there's plenty of scenic photos like this pan of the Tetons.
My favorite Ziggy cartoon and a glimpse into my political/philosophical life.
In 2004 we moved out of town where my daughter, who has loved horses all her life, was able to have her own. She has 4 now. One Arabian, one quarter horse and 2 paints. Sent this photo on a Christmas card. video: Riding in the east pasture. video: Bareback ride in the arena.
X-wing fighter from Star Wars in Wings over the Rockies museum.
Around the World in 80 Days flying machine in Wings over the Rockies museum.
Model plane show a few miles east of town.
Driving up Pikes Peak
View of Pikes Peak from our home - 130 miles away. There are only 10-15 days a year when it is clear enough to see it.
Pronghorn in our yard. Before we got horses we had some tall grass. I startled a baby pronghorn and thought it was the world's largest jack rabbit as it scampered through the grass where I could only catch a glimpse of it. That was before we realized herds of 50 or more pronghorn travel through ours and the neighbors land each year.
After all the years of taking my daughter horseback riding, this Father's Day she took me riding in a nearby equestrian park.
My daughter and another girl in Dutch outfits riding Friesians (Dutch horse breed) led polo teams onto the field for a Hospice fund raiser event.
Kate took 2nd place in costume class competition. Riding Friesian horse from a ranch where she works.
Planetary city mileage markers on our "astronomy hill". Distances to Earth, TX; Jupiter, FL; Pluto, WV; Saturn, IN; etc. Had several astronomy night/pot luck parties. BYOT affair. (Bring Your Own Telescope) Actually, 2 of the guys had some nice telescopes. One had to bring his scope in a trailer - too big for his car.
Some people have guard dogs. Some of us have attack horses.
Just some cool looking con trail shadows on the clouds above them over our house.
With a win streak like that, makes you wonder how I get any work done...(hint: I cheated. I'm working on a zero loss record now.)
2008 was a year of lots of trail rides This is one of my daughter's favorite pics on a trip to a place called Eagle's Nest about a 30 minute drive from our house.
And so I will end with our latest family picture, although this includes Amanda (on the right) - Kate's friend that lived with us for about 2 years. Amanda's back in Grand Junction now.
