HORSE SUMMER CAMPS

We have camps suited for every horse-loving child ranging from 4 to 14 years of age; from beginner to experieced riders!

On Track Horsemanship meets experiemental education.
Karyn Choromanski; who has her masters in Experiential Learning and Developement from Plymonth State University; helped Kate Thomas, owner of On Track Horsemanship, design a program that brings the world of experiental education and the world of horsemanship together to engage participants in safe and unique opportunties that allow them to step outside of their comfort zones, make choices, and grow in a variety of ways. Karyn's philospy is that every child deserves the opportunity to explore their limitations and capabilities within a safe and supportive enviroment while challenging themselves to grow and achieve. She believes in allowing children to problem solve and learn through successes and failures while learning how to be effective communicators and members of a group in the hopes of facilitating personal growth and developement. Kate believes horses have a unique energy that allows participants to achieve their personal growth and goals in a way that horse-less activities cannot do. Kate believes horses are the key for participants to become successful and achieve their dreams because of the horses unique energy and presence that is soothing to the human soul.

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man. ~ Winston Churchill.

A week of horse camp is a journey into the world of horsemanship for children ages 8 to 14. Students will learn how to catch, lead, tie, saddle, and ride their horse. Each child will be assigned to a horse according to their skill level. Participants will be engaged with different games and activities as we explore all of the different aspects of horsesmanship including, but not limited to: Behavior, Nutrition, Hoof Care, Conformation, Coat Color Genetics, Equestrian Sports, and Tack Termanology. Your child will learn responsibility and leadership through working with horses in a group environment. We play mounted and non-mounted games which are designed to encourage personal growth, problem solving skills, and team work. A daily routine will involve warming up their horse before riding lessons and mounted games; cooling the horses down after the ride; turning the horses out to pasture; and cleaning up after the horses (what a horse eats must come out!). Children will learn how each horse has their own personality and how we need to be good leaders so that the horse understands and respects us. Your child will learn when, where, and how to apply the appropriate amount of pressure to get the horse to do a specific command.

Camps are kept small to ensure each child gets one-on-one time with the instructor to improve their skills both on and off the horse. During the last day of camp parents are encourage to come watch their child demonstrate the skills that they have learned. Also on the last day of camp, we will have a fun pizza party!
